Monday 25 August at 15.00 – 24.00
Excursion through the Archipelago to the Island of Marstrand.

The bus will pick you up outside the Göteborg Convention Centre at 15:00 and take you to the boat at Lilla Bommen. The boat trip to the picturesque island of Marstrand will start at 15:30 and takes about 2.5 hours. Marstrand is a classical seaside resort with traditions from the 12th century and is perhaps best known for all the sailing boat races. Marstrand harbour nestles under the walls of one of the best preserved stone fortresses in northern Europe – majestic Carlsten Fortress built to protect the Swedes from the Danes in the 17th Century.

At the harbour in Marstrand you will be met by traditional Karolinian soldiers and they will guide you to the fortress (the highest point on the island) to enjoy the fantastic panoramic view of the sea from the top. At the Kings gate you are greeted by the officer in charge who leads you to your dining room. Soldiers perform the loading and firing of an old flintlock musket from the 18th century.

During the tour through the fortress, over the windy courtyard and through narrow passages, you will hear the brutal and fascinating history of Carlstens Fortress.

You will be served a Viking Dinner which is, according to tradition, served on wooden plates and the wine in real bull horns. At approx. 22.00 the buses will start to take you back to Göteborg. Price per person: SEK 980 Must be pre-booked on the registration to obtain a ticket.
